he's never said it in words, but given his actions and context from other stories its rather easy to extrapolate. now don't get me wrong, its still frustrating, just not inunderstandably so.

Again, he's thinking more about romance, than power or benefits. Just like he wants others to like him for himself, he wants to reciprocate that and find romance with someone for who they are, not what he can get out of them. It all falls into this sort of bizarre, naïve double standard he's set up for himself. He wants to be loved, but thinks that being loved is impossible.

There's also the factor of him being single his entire life, so his self confidence is practically zero. So even if he did like a girl, he doesn't think anyone would like him back.
