I think what the author's trying to do is to keep the story revolving around these academy characters since it's easier to write it that way. The people mc hang around with are supposed to play a huge role in the future, so I can imagine the author trying to flesh out more of the side characters. But yeah, it feels like a drag.

The biggest plot holes for God and the likes in other fictions is the "who created God" which most people explains that none did and He was first in existence. Another one was that "why create humans" which is what you're addressing and for the most part, the answer I got is that He's the Creator so He creates.

There's a certain degree of 'we just don't know/that's just how it is' answers in stories that I can just accept, and those two are kind of like my standard.
