Alright. I like how the way of this world is not cut and dry. Everyone has their own motives and sometimes it conflicts with MC's way of thinking. This is a good way to keep the story grounded, even though it felt a bit forced.

ah so we get a flashback. Man that old man has more power in this world than any of the other elders. Of all the people MC has met in this world, this is the first person he has had actual respect for. Usually everyone he meets is someone he wants to kill or wants to use.
