It became oh so obvious as to why that skill was explored right before this whole situation....
Regressing is a pretty good power for learning patterns and utilising every thing available after all. Like for moves faster than someone, predicting it and dodging in advance is an option. Although attacking is a problem, running while dodging has a slim chance.
But after reading the rest of the manga, what I said is impossible but at this point when I didn't know much about the mimics it could've been possible although a low chance since you could see there was one mimic at least at the front which could be avoided. With a collective effort sure, facing thousands is possible but only he was a regressor, and he can't influence every soldier in such a limited time frame. No matter how strong he got (within reasonable limits) he would not be able to completely eliminate all mimics unless he goes the kind of haywire of Greed Subaru from Re:Zero which was possible because of echidna not subaru himself, because a human mind is not built for such selflessness or should I say selfishness?
Though honestly you're right, I was probably just frustrated by the fact that the mc doesn't even give avoiding that single mimic a try and decides to face tens and hundreds on the battlefield instead. At that point it wasn't even guaranteed that one person could change the battlefield or even if there was a point at the end of the battle.
Sorry for the long paragraph btw, I just ended up adding too much.....Its fine if you ignore it
And I just don't want to read through it again to find the context for my comment
So yeah
