I completely agree that it's not a good habit to have, but I've had it since middle school. It's hard to get rid of. Since I find it extremely hard to learn from reading, if there is anything I need to know outside the lecture I usually look it up on YouTube and practice it. I had a hard time learning from physical books so I found what works for me in these situations.

I do the opposite, since I have really good auditory memory I never open my textbook and just listen to the lecture to get the material.
But usually, the teachers even encourage students to read ahead.

Since this is unkown territory, I'm aproaching this with an open mind. Trying not to be quick to judge.
