Hmmmm I think this is slightly off mark because I think it's the authors intention to make us hate him. We enjoy hating and waiting for the demise of characters we find detestable. For example, I hate Rachel to the bone just like the author guided us to feel about her, if he were to suddenly kill her off without making her struggle I would email SIU a strongly worded letter.
