Xiu is 修 (pronounced something like sh-ew), while Qiu is 秋 (pronounced something like ch-ew). The difference between x and q might not sound that different to a western ear, sure, but for native Chinese speakers it is still a very noticeable difference, not to mention the written characters are extremely different.

Like, I had an acquaintance whose name is Zhu Ying, and another whose name is Zhu Yin. To my American friends, they cannot tell apart when I'm referring to one over the other, but when I say (translated) "Hey Ying/Yin", when both are present, they know who I'm referring to. We're accustomed to hearing the difference, so we detect the difference much more easily than someone who isn't.

Well theres like a dozen or two commenters who if I see their name, I'm like "oh its them again", but if you ask me to name them without looking, I can only remember Hentai Protag, because their name just leaves a lasting impression.

I wonder if it's a disconnect between human vs hyuman, for a lack of a better way to put it. I mean iirc, the goddess did put a spell that keeps him from being able to speak the Hyuman language, maybe part of it is accomplished by preventing him from subconsciously ever associating/considering himself as a part of the "hyumans"?

Honestly it makes me sad I no longer have all my comments across all the sites that use it. Now all the old disqus comment chains are locked and cannot be interacted with :(
