Japan cold weather giving you a cold in manga is like, 100% guaranteed. 

Although, If your willing to drop into something long afterwards, I'd recommend the "Dragon Ball" anime franchise (+ filler, movies and specials + the Super manga), and the "One Piece" manga (+ all the filler episodes and movies.) Trust me, it's so worth it! Reading or watching long running things is so heart warming. Just don't watch the One Piece anime, it's insanely slow and changes some things, even if some of the current arc's episodes have looked god tier recently. I read all of one piece in 45 days, and watched all the other stuff by 63 days. 2 months straight of nothing but One Piece and I didn't get bored once! In my current pace, it seems like I'll finish Ippo around 45 days too, unless dialogue gets heavier like One Piece did in it's later run.

Yeah I also agree. It's really grounded which I love, but still has that manga/anime feel to it that I adore. Yeah I still find it incredible how the mangaka manages to make each and every character's back story so different and unique for 500 chapters I have read, and I expect he'll continue to do so. Nobody is generic, and I find that wonderful. It really feels like the WORLD shaped these people, rather than the Mangaka making them to be that way, which is masterpiece writing. 
Haha that's an honour, but I do need to say a few things. I'm one of the biggest Dragon Ball fans there is, so I'm extremely partial to it, but I'm also extremely critical and don't let bias dictate my life. But if you haven't watched it, I wholly recommend it! It's only like, 700 episodes lol (+The Super manga). But I can tell you the best way to experience things like that, because there's a few things I've watched and read that are very confusing in terms of watch order and chronology, I'll list the 3 major ones: "Dragon Ball" universe, "A certain magical Index" universe, and the "Gambler Kaiji" universe. These are 3 of the best franchises to be made and I can tell you the best way to read/watch them when the time comes. So if you ever feel the desire to start one of them, message me and I'll gladly make you a guide! (I'm more likely to notice your messages on MAL compared to MK, so if you ever make an account or have one, be sure to do that!) However don't be just watching the things I ranked 10/10, since I think some things are a must watch/read even if their score is just an 8/10 or less. I'll list a few (but again if your ever curious feel free to message me): "Blame!" (M), "My Hero Academia: Vigilantes" (M), "Baccano!" (A), "Stein's gate" (A), "Haikyuu!" (A), "Record of Ragnarok" (M), "Initial D" (A).
I'd start off with all 'Stages' of "Initial D" (Stage 1-6, don't watch the battle stages they are just the races compiled, stage 3 is a movie and final stage had 4 episodes.) because Initial D is such a masterpiece that you can finish in 2 weeks and have such an epic time. For manga, I'd recommend starting off with "Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku" for the best romance manga you've ever read, but if your not a fan of romance, "Record of Ragnarok" is a non-stop thrill ride 1v1 humans vs Gods tournament.

I think their relationship is fairly standard, she's still to blossom into being more than just Ippo's love interest. It's more like a harem right now between Kumi, Massage girl and Fuji's partner. But I can tell Ippo will get together with Kumi eventually. I'm at the part just before Ippo fights Sawamura, and Sawamura attacked Kumi in front of Ippo and Mashiba. It would be cool if Kumi became his personal Nurse or something to integrate her more into the story, but I know I have just under 1000 more chapters to go so I guess I'll see. I've managed to avoid spoilers thus far though!
Sawamura really reminds me of Jason from Tokyo Ghoul, perhaps Jason was inspired by Sawamura? They both look like Sharks lol. 

I love Mashiba. He's such a funny character despite being gloomy. But I genuinely love them all.
This is probably the funniest manga I've ever read too, the fight scenes are the best in manga. Period. 
I cannot wait, yet dread catching up because this manga is so special. At first I thought it would be boring because it's all just boxing in a tiny ring, compared to One Piece's huge world building and character moments. While I admit One Piece is still my favourite, Hajime no Ippo is a comfy second place. Naruto is 3rd. Berserk is 4th and Slam Dunk is 5th. 
Sports manga are absolutely goated.
