I think the only reason these datenseki guys want to "negotiate" is because there's only a few (from what was shown, only 6 for now) who can really wield those powers without any drawbacks. So they want to expand first with the islands they want to get from the japan government. As in expand their military forces, then eventually conquer the world — is probably their plan here.

On the story that was told, the Shohoku people already waved their white flags after the 6 (six) people who can wield the datenseki power died from the enchanted blades, and if you think about it, there will be more people to emerge and become like those 6 (six), so that might be the reason the Sword Master annihilated them even though they already surrendered. Removing a threat instead of taking a risk once it emerges.

from what ive read in this chapter, what the people know about is a fabricated truth, meaning truthful information mixed with lies that came from the hishaku group. the people only know that the "heroes" are the actual killers who annihilated the said island. they didn't know it's only the sword master, the only one who did, and the other five are still heroes who stopped the war and this sword master who's the owner of shinuchi.

the valhalla king is really stupid. FIRST, he revealed his plan. SECOND, just because he see some lying bodies on that video call, he thinks mc is in the place he expects him to be. THIRD, he thinks mc cares about people who's not even his subordinates yet? well, mc probably cares 'cause that's what we know from how he treats his allies. BUT mc might have sent his allies along with the rebel's strategist, and just told them to wait at the right moment. OR as the rebel's strategist goes to their castle to defend it, mc might have sent his strongest army of 30 to follow along and ACCIDENTALLY flank the enemies and accidentally, not really, kill them. and MEANWHILE, it's just really ONLY mc who has been raiding those castles.

With those examples, "holding yourself in a castle was damn easy IRL" is damn true. However, in this case, the rebels are only barbarians with Sword Aura as their skill. No magic. Also, iirc, mc was the one who took down that castle for the rebels (indirectly so other valhalla citizens won't suspect the rebels colluding with mc). Meaning, the rebels don't have any catapults or mages to defend, only themselves with their sword and aura. It seems 'cannons' were not invented for defending in this manhwa, so there's no tool to use for defending, actually. From what we read until now, the only ones capable of defending are mages, magic shield that mages built and reinforced, and the castle wall itself. So yeah, they won't be able to hold out for a week or perhaps even less than that with only barbarians that can only wield swords and not cast magic. Also, in this situation, it's not like they can build a river around the castle within a few days/weeks, or be around mountains magically?

You can avoid these kind of replies if you just read and apply the manhwa's logic, not IRL's logic.
