Yeah, I can definitely see that. The way they’re handling the MC in the latest chapter does feel like a repeat of what they tried with his sister earlier in the story. It makes sense within the world — using relationships, family ties, and emotional leverage as part of strategy or power dynamics is consistent with how the series frames its politics and stakes. I think it’s interesting to see the same kind of setup applied to the MC, and it adds another layer to how characters maneuver and influence each other.

At the same time, even though I understand the reasoning, it’s hard not to notice how much attention the story gives to the emotional or “fluttery” side of it. That focus naturally draws the reader to the romance beats, which can make the pacing feel a bit different compared to the high-stakes conflict or strategy that drives the rest of the story. Still, it’s an intriguing way to explore character dynamics and see how the emperor and others are manipulating circumstances to their advantage.

But then again, they have tried this with romance a couple of times in this series, and it just feels recycled over and over again. I just wish they moved onto a new from of political manipulation and not just do what they have done before with this romance thing. I think its like 3 or 4 girls (Pluss the little demon king on his shoulder) now in this series who has a one sided love towards Davy and is trying to use that to get him on their side.

This isn’t whining — it’s a structural critique. The Max Level Hero Has Returned! is about power, strategy, and high stakes. Dropping random romance 200+ chapters in kills tension, slows the plot, and shifts focus away from what makes the story good. If it were a romance from the start, fine, but its not — forcing it this late just feels sloppy and out of place. Even if its not gonna end as a relationship its just random love drama irrelevant to the story.
