I currently use 3 sites outside of mangakatana, and no, there's no problem with the chatroom (outside of their policy change, which maybe the cause of this change). So it's probably like the case with unity, where they fcked up their business module so badly some developers would rather build their own engine from scratch. 

I don't think you can tag someone in this chatroom(yet). Even when using disqus, that's not how you tag someone lol. You gotta use their handle, not their username.
