Oh. Well, shit. I figured out the plot in its entirety. I'm almost ashamed it took me this long to understand. The world isn't out to get him, as was proven by the fact the Great Spirit not only doesn't fight him, but in fact warns him about the parameters of her contract. It's not The World™ energizing these various heroes to combat Dwight, it's the woman that died beside him. His beloved hero is out to stop him from committing more evil in hers and his names.

Anyway, actually kick-ass story. 10/10, will actually buy from AmiAmi.
