I can't exactly fault him completely, although I want to... First of all the old bitch is(was) his only family before Lily and more like a mother figure to him, while Lily came from an enemy family. Now, even of he asked her if the letter was true, he wouldn't believe her since he would think that she was just acting all this time. Their relationship is a huge pile of misunderstandings and mistrust, with Lily being the victim from all sides. Yes, I hate Theodore for simply believing all this shit without a single doubt, but can't completely fault him either....
