As someone of lower class, the thought of being together with a noble is unimaginable. His options are to become someone of atleast equal standing (which is nearly impossible), ask her to besmirch if not throw away her standing (which is extremely selfish from his perspective even though she might be willing), or burying his own feelings, "supporting" her marriagea, and feigning that its for her happiness (practically guaranteeing neither of them get what they truly want).

Been reading "Villager A wants to save the villaness" would be cool if gray could figure out a way to do something similar, although from his position now this is incredibly far fetched. Or if he could have a set up like Laenor and Rhaenyra from HOTD.

I know not every story can be so indulgent but that won't stop me from hoping.
