Aquila's still horrible, but Bellus convincing the king to knock up his already very ill wife again just because you feel like the current princesses aren't religious enough is kind of fucked up. The king isn't free from blame either.

I wonder if this is foreshadowing the last internal threat after aquila is dealt with. If what aquila is saying can be taken at face value, which I'm assuming it can since it was a conversation between her and her main partner in crime altor, Bellus is desperate to hold on to the power he has. Bellus having so much favor with the current king gives him and the church alot of influence over the country, so seeing that the king's progeny weren't blindly faithful and unable to make them so, he realizes he'll have to install someone besides them and convinces the king to produce another child. They'll be further down the line of succession but if something were to happen to those ahead then this wouldn't be an issue.

This new child, Bella, unfortunately for him, doesn't turn out to be very pious either, but the first princess, beatrice, has an illegitimate child, and as heir apparent (which I personally had unknowingly been confusing with heir presumptive ) gives this child a higher claim to the throne than her elder aunts. In this case the only barrier between installing a ruler that'll potentially be more favorable for the church is the first princess herself instead of both the first and second.

This kinda gives Bellus motive towards being the one that cursed the first princess.

According to this the feathers are another good source of nitrogen. Considering they were gathering bird guano, they probably got a good stock of them( the feathers) and decided to try to compost them while drying the manure, allowing the manure's natural mircrobiome to break down the feathers into their base elements. Though the fact that, according to the source, feathers take months to compost this seems a bit unlikely too. Its possible the author may have simply gotten manure making and composting facts mixed up. Wasn't able to find anything when i looked up " (ancient) korean manure making" or manure feather blanket
