Fck authors this days needs to read a little … good stories that start well going to trash because authors grab a tendency and work with them instead of writing good histories. There is no problem with background and world building when is done right, but no1 cares about character x that has been shown once , and we have had like 20 chapters now about nobodies that where mentioned once in the history. Like is not that difficult , first you introduce a character as a natural flow of the history , make people like or hate him, but make it charismatic, the you can little by little give info about them and wafted that you can do a full background history , when your readers care or hate (depending if is meant to be hated) the character

Though I agree that in this life he is playing more politics, in this case, it has to do with power, his goal is to save every slave, not to destabilize the city/country. If he does assassination of higher ups and nobles, the slaves will just go to another human, as it is a cultural thing, and those continuous assassinations of higher ups will probably create instability and that would cause a lot of slaves deaths.
