honestly, I don't see why you wouldn't want to improve beginner magic. They've mentioned before that beginner stuff is quick and easy to cast especially at higher levels so being able to use decently powerful beginner magic as a quick distraction to set up stronger shit would be a good strategy (pretty sure he's done it before too)
