Yeah, the main reason that bows aren’t used is because the bow is what releases the energy to propel the arrow. So first you have to put qi into the bow and then release that qi into the arrow… it’s harder and not many can do it. It’s like using your qi to crush your opponents armor through your sword. It’d be easier to just grab the armor bare handed. However, launching an arrow bare handed would reduce accuracy.
