I don't get why MC cares whether people know that xhe use to be human in another life. MC has allies way more human, that use to be human, that still are human, that are quasi human. And as the beasts evolve they gain human qualities as well. What it even means to be "human" is really fuzzy in this world.

They respect MCs strength and leadership, ability to power them up, there is also some forced loyalty from the sap or whatever I think? Regardless I don't think any of them will care. It might effect getting new recruits is all, but they could just not tell them.

There was also other benefits for not killing them, even aside from not triggering that event. Like even as temporary allies out of necessity, having 3 more people with you to survive till the end would help. Long as you can trust them to work together to survive this run. Even if they act cowardly and run away or something, that can still be useful. Decoys for enemies to chase.

Also with them alive no one else could enter the witches hut and less need to keep watch as long as they were tied up.

Meh, I see this kind of trope repeated so many times and every time I think, geez if failure is "never tolerated" and leads to a death sentence, then everyones logically going to betray you the moment they fail. Why go back and report your failure if you know you'll be killed? Instead your best chance at living is to betray that organization that would kill you for such a stupid reason. The real fallout would be from killing them because they failed a impossible task. Especially if people know they were killed after succeeding in another task. How would they know? How would everyone know they failed in the first place?

Why did MC try to kill them in the first place only to debate killing them latter. Not even MC thought "knocking them out" since MC directly says/thinks "surprised they are still alive"
