5,000 horse archers against an army of 50,000 isn't a bad match at all, imo. How this plays out depends on the hit-and-run ability of the horse archers commander, so we are basically playing a Mongolian horde here.

The problem lies within two fronts. First, the superhuman knights who can intercept arrows and chase the horse archers on horseback, potentially dropping casualties. Second, and consequential to the first, is the technology of Crossbows spreading to the enemies.

The latter is bound to happen either way but it is unfavorable this early in the civil war.

Either way, how with the skirmish play out? I don't see it as too much of a disadvantage if all that was going to happen was to act as annoying buzz while the big armies clash.
