Who despises who, the Demon Lord to Makoto? Nah! They pretty much become 'pals... there is a reason why Makoto offers him to take the demon-folk into the Demi-Plane

Fuck... just read one spoiler-tagged word and now I'm itching to read the LN

- After her rebirth, The Superior Dragon Waterfall says to Hibiki she senses Makoto has a mana pool so vast it can only be compared with The Goddess so her mental gymnastics tells her the only reason someone would increase their mana pool that much is because it wants to kill The Goddess and take her place as a new god. Hibiki said to Waterfall Makoto only wants to go back to Earth but Waterfall says it is impossible but only for a god to do so, which feeds her self-believe Makoto wants to take the spot of the new god of this world even more...

- Makoto doesn't want to talk to Hibiki anymore because Hibiki hasn't grown up from her Japanese morals that don't apply to this medieval world. Hibiki believes the only chance demi-humans and demons have to be accepted as equals to hyumans is by first aiding hyumans in winning the war against demons, and letting the demon-folk be enslaved. Then she will get into politics to change the point of view of hyumans against demi-humans and demons until they are accepted into society a few hundred years from now. Makoto can't stand letting them suffer for hundreds of years before her plan comes to fruition and even so, he believes as long as the Goddess is around, she will never accept them as equals since she sees them as her failures before creating the hyumans.

On a side note, not only Makoto saves the day but you forgot to mention the bitch-slap he gives to Tomoki for the perfume fiasco so hard, Tomoki loose a few teeth... only to proceed to sweep the floor with Tomoki's face leaving him at death's door -literally- for trying to take Tomoe for himself when they 1st meet at the cabin next to the Lake Makoto created after fighting Sophia and Lancer. That was pure gold.

3.
Makoto sees what would happen if he joined the Demons in the war (ver.2):
- Makoto secretly joins the Demons in the war.
- The Goddess deceives the Superior Dragons by presenting Makoto as a threat to all existing life.
- Tomoe is the only Superior Dragon that stays with Makoto.
- The Goddess sent Hibiki, Tomoki, the remaining Superior Dragons, and all spirits to kill Makoto.
- Tomoe sacrifices herself to save Makoto and blames him before dying for not listening to her when she told him to escape to the Demi-Plane and never came back.

4.
Makoto makes Tomoki to join him against The Goddess:
- Makoto is standing in a desert, Tomoki is next to him and Mio's corpse is next to them.
- Makoto mourns the death of Mio.
- Tomoki slaps Makoto and says this is what he felt when Makoto killed Hibiki since they both were in love too.
- Makoto says he doesn't want to continue fighting the Goddess.
- Tomoki hit him and said it was too late to step back since only both of them and The Goddess are the only living beings remaining in this world.

Again, take these with a grain of salt as it's been a couple of years since I read the LN and this is by no means as impactful as it is in the LN since you're given this out of context and only able to piece them together like a volume or two since the dreams start popping up.

The "What If..." scenarios you talk about are answered in the LN. I will mention a few of them but I cannot stress this enough: Go and read the light novel.

***HEAVY SPOILERS AHEAD***

After Three Gods visit Makoto in the Demi-Plane, Daikokuken (Shintoist version of Shiva), Athena (the Greek goddess), and Susanoo-no-Mikoto (Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto's little bother); each of them leaves a gift to Makoto after their departure. Daikokuken's gift is the god-like ability to see multiple futures in his sleep as he cannot control the ability yet.

I read the LN at least 2 1/2 years ago so take them with a grain of salt and these are what I remember at least so take them with a grain of salt. Here are a few of the visions Makoto saw in no particular order:

1.
Makoto sees what would happen if he joined the Goddess in the war:
- Makoto made a pact with the Goddess so she made him good-looking and fights against the demons.
- Hibiki and Tomoki are relegated to a political standing where Hibikki is the new Queen of Limia and Tomoki is the new King of Grittonia.
- Makoto single-handedly wins the war against all Demons and kills every single demon-folk out of existence.
- Seeing this, all Superior Dragons wage war against the Goddess and call out all other demi-races and spirits -including The Calamity Spider-, that lived in this world before the Goddess appeared.
- Again, Makoto single-handedly kills all of them leaving only the hyumans as the only intelligent race.
- This pretty much makes the world arid as there are no spirits that can sustain life on this planet anymore, leaving Makoto and The Goddess as the only survivors of the war.
- Makoto wages war against The Goddess.

2.
Makoto sees what would happen if he joined the Demons in the war (ver.1):
- Makoto openly joined the Demons in the war.
- Makoto destroys either Grittonia or Limia (can't remember which one).
- The Goddess sent both heroes to fight against Makoto at the same time.
- Makoto kills both Hibiki and Tomoki.
- Shit hits the fan.
- The Goddess herself shows up to kill Makoto.
- Mio and Tomoe sacrifice themselves to save Makoto.
- Makoto kills the Goddess.
- The world is dead and Makoto is the sole survivor in this world.

Well, he is beginning to develop some sort of sociopathy. Later on, Tomoe detects his apathy and sociopathic tendencies towards hyumans. A lot later -like 2-3 volumes apart-, he realizes this and even questions himself and realizes is because the Goddess has imprinted her warped and shallow value of any other life form that it isn't hyuman. Makoto's subconscious did mental gymnastics and subconsciously arrived at the conclusion that: The Goddess is bad, therefore; hyumans are equally bad. Two events made him track back from that path but that is another story.

Oh! It will take more than just all of the Superior Dragons combined to stop him...

Makoto fights the Greek Goddess of War and Wisdom, Athena; and she is barely able to defeat Makoto... and that's the only known defeat he has so far.

Imagine this... you get offered the chance to get yourself kidnapped to another country or one of your family members get kidnapped to another country. Once there, you are left to die in a desert just to realize you were left stranded in a desert of a country where no one speaks your language and proactively tries to kill you at first sight. You get to know a tribe of people that accepts you and respect you. You finally overcome the bloodlust of the main populace of said country has against you and every time the people of said country see you or the tribe that helps you out, the people of that country disregard your existence as no more than an animal or slave, even though you proactively try to be "a good neighbor"? I would say not a lot of people would care what happens to them if they die or not.

Anyway, Makoto eventually gets involved and begins to care about the war. Enough so he offers a pass to the Demi Plane to all Demon-folk so they can escape the war... they reject his offering but that's another story.

The main reason Makoto -as Keema said- "doesn't care" is because he sees The Goddess in the hyumans of this world... and he reeeally hates her.

The main reason Makoto stopped doing the archery training was because he was thinning out his consciousness so much he was being considered dead by Tomoe & Mio. Hence, they prohibited Makoto from doing it again. The mana growth was a side effect of said training... and he did the archery training to vent his stress.

It is not until Daikokuken, Athena & Susanoo-no-Mikoto visit Makoto at the Demi-plane that they tell him he should continue with his archery training to increase his mana pool so he can stand a chance against The Goddess -and potentially take her place as the new god of this world-

Actually, he wants both. Makoto still wants to fight the Goddess to give her a lesson and to do so, he want to get stronger. Makoto stopped training with his bow and arrow -which was his way to deal with stress- because Mio and Tomoe told him to stop doing it because he was "blending" his consciousness with the surroundings every time he fired an arrow which was akin to death. They were worried he might not be able to put his consciousness together at some point and die. Each time he blended his consciousness and put it back together, his mana pool pretty much doubled each time he shoot an arrow. This made Makoto's mana pool to stop increasing. She also said Makoto's current mana pool was about half of The Goddess. Hearing this, Makoto wanted a way to increase her mana pool to stand a chance at giving a lesson to The Goddess.... aaaaaaand after the fight with Sophia and Lancer, Makoto wanted to know how to use and access his mana pool more efficiently so there's that too.

What are you talking? He does love Rudeus and cares for him. So much so that he sent his 10-year-old prodigy son in both magic and sword to get a better life from such a young age. And before you mention Rudeus was only a kid, remember, Rudeus was acting not as a kid but as a grown-ass man. There were a few occasions Paul said to Rudeus he acted way over the 8-10 y/o kid he was and saw him more like a man than a child. Again Rudeus was an Imperator Magician at the age of 10.

Because of this and much more, Paul saw Rudeus not as a kid but as a man and expected him to behave like such and think of his family as a top priority rather than a yearlong sightseeing vacation trip to the Demon Continent... but no matter what his reasoning is, not from an omniscient reader point of view but as a spectator within that society, I cannot deny Paul expecting a 10 y/o kid to behave like a man is a dick move. He has his perks and his lows. He's a good character nonetheless, with very human-like behavior.

Makoto is not only prone to kill his enemies... he turns out to have some sort of sociopathy towards hyumans. In the Lybia Empire, he kills 3 assassins withough even flinching... later on everyone who witness it gets frozen in place due to the lack of emotions Makoto had at the moment of the kill, he had not even killing intent; he lust kill them as if bugs bothering him. Even Makoto himself starts thinking if there's something wrong in him.
