I just doubt that it would be that kind of opposition. Even if that would be the case, it's more likely to be a group then an individual, like a dragon abusing guild or creators of the chimera.
Additionally, unless that phoenixgon pulls out a contract cancellation magic, there is not much that MC can do. I guess that other then persuasion (or princess) he could use his dragon form to KO all other ability users.

Normal people have a very limited amount of contract slots, so there is not much forcing that could be done.

I didn't play many games of this type so no idea if there are others that also have systems like that.

He is in a state where it would make sense for the plot to kill him or do something else that will prevent him from continuing his role as an annoying side character in enemy team. It would actually be annoying if nothing like this happens and he will just be healed like that mage that temporarily lost his legs (the mage at least looks more relevant for the future plot).

Its not a real hibernation since they seem to be conscious and able to hear, feel and process what is happening outside. And my biggest problem is actually the suspense of growth at such early stage.

So... dragons, when they are ready to hatch, can stop and delay their growth, and survive inside of, excluding themselves, an empty egg without eating or drinking for many months if not years. I may not be a ponygon expert but it's really weird.
