The only issue with your argument is if Sheria can brainwash the most powerful people in the land, then there is nothing stopping her at all. Doing it at this conference vs doing it in a court room won't change what she can do. Brainwashing is always a lame power in stories because it is absolutely broken and there is no real counter measures to it.
