spoilers yes and tragically not together, her in a later battle and him during an escape sequence, while he's still mourning and is absolutely terrified because he's chased by the strongest Scythe. The worst is that in the novel part of his attempted escape is from another soldier's POV and he explains how depressed he is because they had just confessed each other's feelings before the surprise attack where she died and were going to be discharged like days later and get married. The novel is great because it's full of small moments like in this chapter from soldier's or common people's POVs.
P.S. I forgot that during the chase the soldier was contemplating giving up and letting himself die there. So yeah drink your tears.

Setting aside how dark this chapter in its entirety is, we can officially tell that the pope isn't even trying to identify the garland. The kid and his dad leave a literal trail of corpses everywhere they go... Every time we see them they murder someone they shouldn't be hard to find.

yeah Arthur gets stuck in Alacrya after losing the war and he's pretty bitter about it lol. He's not really racist, more like extremely guarded but Regis calls him racist and it sticks because everything that comes out of Regis is absolutely golden.
