A dream filled with red camellia and the passing of a strange mask... The owner of this mask is a boy named Yue who lives in a temple populated with unusual - and not altogether human - residents.

It's winter, and the nearby town, Utsuwa, is holding a seasonal festival. Kurogitsune, Yue's fox spirit friend, decides it's the perfect opportunity for the sheltered young man to experience the sights, sounds, and (most of all!) the food in the outside world. Even though Yue is forbidden from ever leaving the temple, they sneak into town, not realising what they've set into motion.

Note: #10 is an extra volume. The main story ends in the 9th volume.

Kuuki no Soko is a collection of short stories drawn by the genius mangaka, Tezuka Osamu, between 1968 and 1970, and is known in Japan as a true masterpiece.

And the human mind is the leitmotif of the entire volume, namely the duality present in every one of us - mercy, love, and understanding, existing together with cruelty and violence until something upsets the balance and we discover a side hidden even from ourselves... a side we are not always prepared to confront...

Most girls are crazy about jewelry, but not Anis Yamamoto. Not since her father gave her a rose choker as a child, claiming it was a protective amulet which would safeguard her from harm; however, if she ever took it off (a feat easier said than done!), she would be afflicted by a “punishment” of some sort. Not like it matters to her though, since the attention it attracts around school from faculty and students alike isn’t something she’s particularly fond of.

But after a certain incident causes the choker to disappear, she realizes that this punishment her father spoke of might have been a bit more than she bargained for!

This is a world where there are three classes- Royals, Nobility, and Commoners. The Commoners are at the mercy of the Royals and the Nobility. There is magic, and an elusive siren...how does it all come together?

In the recesses of mountain... there's a bus stop at outskirts of a village, it's called "Hinamizawa bus stop". Rika, a female high-school student, together with her junior, Mion visit this place. Twisted relationships that are concerned with the dam construction in Hinamizawa, and the stories of the curse of "Oyashiro-sama" that takes root in this area. What waiting for them is a tragedy, or else...?
