H.P. Lovecraft's The Hound and Other Stories - 3 chapter(s)

Jun-29-2019
A collection of stories:

1. The Temple
The story is narrated as a “found manuscript” penned by Karl Heinrich, Graf von Altberg-Ehrenstein, a lieutenant-commander in the Imperial German Navy during the days of World War I. It documents his untimely end at the bottom of the ocean. Altberg begins by declaring that he has decided to document the events leading up to his final hour in order to “set certain facts” before the public, aware that he will not survive to do so himself.

2. The Hound
The story focuses around the narrator and his friend St. John, who have a deranged interest in robbing graves. They constantly defile crypts and often keep souvenirs of their nocturnal expeditions. Since they reside in the same house, they have the opportunity to set up a sort of morbid museum in their basement. Using the objects they collect from the various graves they have robbed, they organize the private exhibition. The collection consists of headstones, preserved bodies, skulls, and several heads in different phases of decomposition. It also included statues, frightful paintings, and a locked portfolio bound in tanned human-skin.

3. The Nameless City
The Nameless City, of the story's title, is an ancient ruin located somewhere in the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula, and is older than any human civilization. In ancient times, the Nameless City was built and inhabited by an unnamed race of reptiles with a body shaped like a cross between a crocodile and a seal with a strange head common to neither, involving a protruding forehead, horns, lack of a nose, and an alligator-like jaw. These beings moved by crawling; thus, the architecture of the city has very low ceilings and some places are too low for a human being to stand upright. Their city was originally coastal, but, when the seas receded, it was left in the depths of a desert. This resulted in the decline and eventual ruin of the city.

H.P. Lovecraft's The Outsider and Other Stories - 1 chapter(s)

May-12-2019
A collection of stories:

1. The Outsider by H.P. Lovecraft
In this work, a mysterious man who has been living alone in a castle for as long as he can remember decides to break free in search of human contact and light. “The Outsider” is one of Lovecraft's most commonly reprinted works and is also one of the most popular stories ever to be published in Weird Tales.

2. The House with the Mezzanine by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov
“The House With The Mezzanine” is the story of a somewhat diffident young man, a painter, and his somewhat tenuous romance with two sisters during a vacation; the story is laden with the impressionistic images conjured up by its narrator and is one of Chekhov’s finest short stories.

3. Twenty-six Men and a Girl by Maxim Gorky
“Twenty-six Men and a Girl” is a pioneering story of Social Realism (predating Soviet socialist realism), and is a story of lost ideals. Twenty-six men labor in a cellar, making kringles in an effective prison. They are looked down upon by all around them, including the bun bakers. Their only seeming solace is the sixteen-year-old Tanya who visits them every morning for kringles they give her.

At the Mountains of Madness - 1 chapter(s)

Aug-17-2018
Manga adaption of H. P. Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness" novel.

The story details the events of a disastrous expedition to the Antarctic continent in September 1930, and what was found there by a group of explorers led by the narrator, Dr. William Dyer of Miskatonic University. Throughout the story, Dyer details a series of previously untold events in the hope of deterring another group of explorers who wish to return to the continent.

The story has inadvertently popularized the concept of ancient astronauts, as well as Antarctica's place in the "ancient astronaut mythology".
