Yes and No. The church irl is not corrupt but has corrupt individuals perverting their messages. That is a easy way of doing it, make a corrupt section or individual and write your story.

It doesn’t even logically make sense that the full organization from head to toe is corrupt, there would have been rebellions and secessions everywhere, take for instance The Catholic Church which had multiple splits like the Eastern Orthodoxy and the Protestant Movement.
