But a technique is not necessary to impose a binding vow. For instance, Nanami Overtime puts a limit to the amount of cursed energy he can output during work hours. In exchange, he can use up to 110% during overtime.
Sukuna's barrierless domain apparently also made use of binding vow (permitting entry and exit in exchange for higher radius up to 200 m). But I guess it's not that simple otherwise anyone can use barrierless domain. It's really hard to say what's possible or not with binding vows. I agree that most techniques are so set in stone that sacrificing anything to achieve a buff would ruin it. In sukuna's case, it's probably because he's not sacrificing to achieve higher output but imposing rules on himself to change the parameter and condition of his technique. The rules are most likely to be permanent too which is probably why he can gain so much.
Idk why Miwa doesn't gain much from her Binding Vows either. I guess she's just that weak to begin with. If I had to use an example, Gon from HunterXHunter is probably the best one (HxH uses similar power system with Nen. Maybe Gege is inspired by it). Gon can only gain so much because his potential is that high. Meaning, Gon always had the potential to be as strong as Meruem in the future which is why his Nen Vow allow him to reach that state in exchange for everything.

Let's see.
1. World Splittin Cleave has activation condition of Enmaten. Sukuna lost both arms and can't recover with RCT. Hence, he made a binding vow to completely neglect the activation condition just to fire one at Gojo. In exchange, he has to use Enmaten, chanting, specify the direction of his technique before he can activate it. This is important as we see that he wasn't given much chance to fire the world splitting slash at Yuji and co. The only time that we can see him firing world cutting slash is against Kashimo. Other than that, probably Higuruma and Yuta got hit with those since we see him chanting there.
2. This chapter shows another binding vow that will nerf his skillset. In exchange for higher range and speed, he can only use furnace on single target outside his domain. This is not really a nerf since he rarely use it anyway.
In Sukuna's current state, he:
1. Can't use Domain anymore. Most likely can't use his CT as well.
2. Missing both left arms that can't be regenerated. He can't use RCT anymore.
3. IF he can use his CT, he still can never fire world splitting slash unless he recover his rct first. Since he can't make his hand sign with only right arm.
4. Doesn't have a heart and forcibly pumping his blood using cursed energy(?). I have no idea how he's doing this tbh. It's been like that from earlier chapters. Some things are just unexplained properly. Like how come he can resist Idle Transfiguration?
That's probably it. Tbh, with the way he's using binding vow, I'm surprised he didn't kill Gojo sooner. Mf can just buff his output if he use his real form because he can freely chant. If he just went all out from the beginning (Real form, Barrierless domain, Kamutoke, maybe even add binding vow, sacrifice something to up his output) he could probably kill gojo in first domain battle since he already broke his domain then. Him trying to be smart and probably greedy for that space cut just gave him unnecessary brain damage.
