Stories means to be like a flavour, and getting hurt for something like that, even though it already ate dozens before, it is just an exaggeration. At this point in the story, he should far know about human feelings. The story of novel's mc shouldn't do shit to him, specially thanks to mcs filter, since it wasn't directly from the source.

But he didn't use the bookmark, ergo doesn't has an effect at that. Besides, it is just not possible to transmite those feeling at the same level. It is just not. You can read how a person went through a surgery about whatever, but you won't never know the real feeling of it unless you live it. This is the same, no matter what. And the eldritch ate countless stories, like how can none would aclimate it to any of those feelings? Author just failed there, that's all.

But IT IS still just a novel. There are mangas that lasted over a decade and fail to ever do so. It is just impossible express it as if was felt. It would be understandable if was the novel protagonist, but not mc. He didn't go trough all that. He just read it and that's all and at much he may feel empathy, but that's WAY FAR from actually living it. MC never died, nor saw friends die. He won't be able to express those feelings as intense as novel mc because is fictional in the story. This chapter disrupted the suspension of disbelief.
