The problem was Sogo and the other comrades killed the disciples & a swordsman of the nine sects (clearly they did a shitty job cleaning up the evidence) to help grow their sect and its notoriety. The MC had always told Sogo he will be her pawn for the revival of a new and greater killing sect, so the end of the day he will take the fall no matter what. It sucks cause his sect was really starting to grow and get stable, just there was shitty timing.

Lauv family are a very strict and powerful family tied to the imperial family. Due to such pressure, the trainees would have to work hard to be selected in the imperial knight orders or be selected by the imperial family, Prince, princesses, etc. and maybe high nobles if not they are sent back to the family home and deemed a failure I believe. Especially with Lauv he was going to be sent back if it wasn’t for Lyrica choosing him. I think in the past timeline Lauv must’ve became a villain after going home especially as he wasn’t good enough in many people eyes.( The knight who works with Lyrica father, was always disappointed with Lauv) So I see why the mother would say that.
