Yes, the notion of "simply not knowing" might be hard to believe; especially out of context. Thing is, she read the entire novel, so there is plenty of context - as well as his reputation.

He ended the conversation too quickly, imo, like a Baldur's Gate 3 player cutting the conversation short and just attacking.

I don't think she was ever dating that redhead. The redhead dude was infatuated with her, but that was it. There was a rumor of them dating, but rumors are just that.

Furthermore, the only thing that matters in a work like this is the comedy -> and the redhead was used as the butt of a joke and so he served his purpose for the most part.

That is fair and I'm not against that. I'm against the notion of putting marriage on a pedestal and making it seem like an impossible goal. It's not good to do that.
