Author's morality choices aside I think it's best not to show to many sudden changes to an MC's personality. Dion was always weak but kind and even after obtaining strength that's who he is and there's no guarantee they had the intentions to kill him as they said they were gonna have him experience what it's like to take on a dungeon/challenge that's beyond his Lvl.
