I think you need to reread the chapters before the flashback; you are misremembering a lot of details:
ex
- The Briar fruit thorns were always drawn in a transparent manner as if they were invisible and what make you believe they shouldn't be?
- The arrow fruit telegraphs the attacks, but also remember such attacks are unavoidable (according to the user).
- The "the arrow could be the attack" was a conjuncture made by the people hit by the arrow not an established fact.
