Blond phenotype may appear on a child from a dark haired parents. This is because theres someone from both of the parents ancestors who has a blond hair, meaning the blond allele (rr) are homozygous recessive and the dark allele (RR) are homozygous dominant because the parents both have dark hair. If we do the punnet square with the recessive and dominant, we can see that the result will show heterozygous (Rr), heterozygous will express the dominant phenotype because it dominate the recessive, hence the name. This mean in order for the recessive allele to show it self, we need both parents to be heterozygous (Rr). With this the probability of the baby having the recessive allele is around 25% because the ratio from the punnet square is 1 dominant (25% dark) : 2 heterozygous (50% dark): 1 recessive (25% blond).
