This is far fetched but maybe the treasure is actually nika fruit. WG got possession of it by doing the massacre in the castle but because things did not go as planned they had to transport it indirectly meaning long route instead of directly but Giants asked Shanks to get it back and then Luffy ate it. Hence Shanks said that it was a Treasure to Luffy.

It would be a funny twist that this event started it all.
