yea, but there's also the chance that since he's only half it would only do half the job. the vamp half would be curing/killing while the human half would be turning. So instead of killing them it would just make both of them into half vamps.   its a bit of a leap in logic but, given this series serious jumps in said field, its not completely out of reach.
