i get it its a trope but this noble mashing never gets old. it does get tiring though i mean how many nobles need to be ground to a pulp before they learn? all of them? probably.

it is also a mechanism to keep the populace in check, lest you have some random dude name a bunch of people till he becomes a god and wipes out everybody.

i think the MC is just obnoxious. its fine for him to have a complex about his betrayal and weakness but by now he should be over it.

Naive? The author has not yet "hardened" the MC to quickly kill as easily and in this manner so all of this should have been quite obvious even if the dude didn't show up at the end. There are other manga whose MC have no problem with killing but the world building and character development generally is consistent with that behavior so to even call it naive is a tad bit disrespectful to the author's intent in this character's motives.

examples of mangas with well built MC's who do not hesitate to kill when necessary is:

and that's just a the few that I have read where characters actually come to terms to having to kill other human or non human beings as a mechanism of character development and it is addressed as an aspect of their character.
