Naive? The author has not yet "hardened" the MC to quickly kill as easily and in this manner so all of this should have been quite obvious even if the dude didn't show up at the end. There are other manga whose MC have no problem with killing but the world building and character development generally is consistent with that behavior so to even call it naive is a tad bit disrespectful to the author's intent in this character's motives.

examples of mangas with well built MC's who do not hesitate to kill when necessary is:

and that's just a the few that I have read where characters actually come to terms to having to kill other human or non human beings as a mechanism of character development and it is addressed as an aspect of their character.

i find it nice that the author has written this in a way that such a theory is very much possible. It would also explain why a lot of these powerful demons don't seem to care that he's human because they have had some interaction with them in one form or another.

what if the demon king is actually suppose to be human in order to prevent a pure demon from going pema wicked and attacking the human world. its far fetched, but the whole forbidding humans thing seems a bit more involved that just simply keeping them out.
