Would have been better if he'd gained that first skill after actually having to deal with the issue for a while, maybe having his growth stunted by having to feed more and more energy to little buddy or trying to mitigate some negative impact on those around him while hiding that he's the cause, but since it's a wholly nonexistent issue, it's just pointless filler.
