The World Government wanted to execute him as an example to others, but it backfired when he announced that One Piece existed and revived the age of piracy - or rather, that he revived the resistance against the government.


One Piece isn't a treasure; I don't know what it is, but it's something dangerous that the World Government is trying to hide.


Luffy wants to become the Pirate King. How can he become king? By getting the One Piece. But that's not Luffy's only dream. The author hasn't yet revealed what Luffy's dream is after becoming the Pirate King

The title of Pirate King isn't a tangible position; it's more of a formal recognition or status. I don't know what One Piece is, but it's something dangerous that the World Government doesn't want the general public to know about.

We don't know all of Gol D. Roger's past, but from what those closest to him say, they give the impression that he is free.

Why did he surrender himself to the world government? Because he was ill and knew he was near death.
