This is pure theory of my own after i reread the whole series, and what i think maybe the clue was in the chapter where Connie was looking towards the hill behind(probably behind, idk) the orphanage as she mentioned about the person she loved was waiting for her in her hometown (I'm tracing back to that chapter, cause i know i wrote this wrong. Alright, fixed the issue)

I'm just speculating, but i thought when leo said the orphanage teacher were horrible, i thought she was maybe? Talking about connie. With how i mistook grandfather thoughts as leo thoughts.
