One day, a kid named Satou Kotarou moved in next door to Karino Shin, an unsuccessful manga artist. Kotarou says he has no parents and lives alone. Karino is annoyed by Kotarou, but as he learns Kotarou's reasons for living alone, they gradually grow closer and grow together.

The original Kotaro Makaritoru contained 7 Major Archs and 1 side series. Initially the comic was filled with slapstick comedy and small sexual humor, but as the story progressed, the comic became more mature and serious. However, some of the classic humor remained. Koutarou Shindou - A high school aged karate expert who is descended from a long line of ninja. While he may be a fighting genius, he lacks common sense and any inhibitions whatsoever. He spends most of his time getting into trouble with school officials, and trying to steal girls' panties; especially Mayumi's. He is very protective of three things: his long hair, his panty collection, and Mayumi.

Ao-ko Nagisa is a brand new teacher. She's posted to a tiny island on the edge of Japanese territory called Kotoko Island, 30 HOURS by boat from Tokyo. The island is so small there are only five students at the school. Everday becomes an adventure as Ao-ko gets to know her students, the other islanders and the island itself (including dolphins and other assorted wildlife.)

The story centres on Suu-chan, a girl who works part-time at a pasta restaurant named "Lamp." She witnesses mysterious events while riding her moped in the night, such as the past of a person or place. She can only experience these visions five minutes at a time.

This comedy depicts the romance between a quiet, day-dreaming female employee named Hirano and Koudai, the handsome male upper-tier employee who just arrived from the New York branch. Despite having trouble talking with people, Hirano is suddenly invited to eat with Koudai for some reason.
