UFO Robot Grendizer is the third entry in the Mazinger Trilogy by Go Nagai, following Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger. This particular incarnation was illustrated by Gosaku Ota and published in Boken Oh, Otomodachi from October 1975 – March 1977. It follows the adventures of Duke Fleed, the sole survivor of an attack on the Vegan Empire, who defends his second home, the Earth, from the Vegan attack, together with the giant robot Grendizer.

All humans are wolves in sheep's clothing and the same applies to Douchinji Youichi, a boy who always daydreams about various things, but never says anything out loud. One day, upon seeing a red full moon, a girl came dashing at him before punching him with a silver knuckle, knocking him unconscious and unable to really remember the incident. However, when someone is full of desires and becomes obsessed with their inner thoughts, the "wolf" outgrows the "sheep" and the person will be able to see the World of Red Moon. The girl explains that she doesn't have a "sheep" and would like to have one, so she requests Youichi to become her "sheep". Youichi agrees to it, marking the beginning of a story of the red riding hood who devours the wolf.

Onoda Nina is a 1st year student of her high school. She has a serious crush on her senpai, the handsome and kind Atsuhito Ogi. Ogi is the president of the ESP (Extra Sensory Perception) club, and only to win his heart she joins the club.

Turns out she has a tough rival, her senpai, Okada Ida who is a beauty and the idol of the school. Ida likes Ogi too and will never let Nina has his way with him. Soon they all find out that Nina actually possesses a powerful ESP, and this makes Ogi pays a lot of attention to her, much to her delight and Ida's distress.

Thus begins the adventure of Nina and her friends in ESP club, and of course her 'battles' with Ida to win Ogi.
