Someone once said that sometimes even people who think they want to die or are ready to do so actually really don't want to. I think it applies in this case too. By going through with this, she's essentially preventing Helena from ever doing what she wants to do, which is exactly what the principle of causality is doing to Eris. It's a messed up but necessary plot, all because she wanted to go back home.
Can you honestly say that you wouldn't hesitate if you were in her place? I think about that a lot
