I focus more on its preface, reception in comments and then dive down. Kind of not really give shit of about any genre - though stroy archetype matters. Only one that I can remember top of my head of shojuo genre that I read- "Into the Light Once Again" and it doesn't have fighting

As for shoujo, what i thought it entail was protagonist being a teen or young girl and story revolving around her and associated themes in the story(primarily love).
As it is the case with shounen, it has young boy or young teen male as protagonist and associated themes (primarily fighting)

In shoju male are supposed to be "bishounen" and female are cool
