I think if they had made Hajin start treating her better because the brother was waking up and he knew it was almost time, but then spending that extra time with her suddently made him realize he had got to close and he had failed at not getting attached would have made a better flow than the brother waking up just after Hajin got too close, which just makes it seem like plot convenience.

Yes all the times he helped her by insulting her straight to her face. I think saying she "confused him for her brother" really makes it seem like you don't remember the begining of the story. Like they got off on the worst foot ever.

He's being repressing feelings for her most of the story. He's always tried to keep her at arms length because of the guilt he felt knowing he'd have to kill her brother. Yes he lost his resolve at basically the exact time he needed it most which was a bit lame but to say they didn't add the romance early enough is missing a lot of subtext from the story.
