I mean, unlike other stories where the skill is useful but the MC gets shunned, this story actually makes sense, his skill will keep attracting monsters and no one wants to be in the middle of that. Although their handling of the problem may be a bit over the top, I can understand their fears.
I can also already tell what kind of MC this guy is gonna be just from his internal thoughts. I think he's the typical manga MC, but we'll see.

After doing some googling I have learned that Christianity is a very major religion in Korea, but of the people that identified as religious in Japan the percentage is about 1% Christian. So I guess the answer to my question is just that there's a large Christian population in Korea, and if I extrapolate from experience the answer on the Japanese side would just be that they probably just think it looks cool, considering how well did I see crosses slapped onto a character to make them look cooler, The same way an American thing Might toss Buddhist imagery into something purely for aesthetic reasons.

Well the cross as used by Christians is inexorably linked to Jesus and the crucifixion in the public consciousness of the West and has been since at least the second century as the significance of the symbol in its most recognizable form was to call forth the idea of the crucifixion, but I guess I should have more accurately said Latin cross in my original comment to specify.

But my general point was just that even in places with different primary religions the symbol of the cross/crucifix is often called up first to combat demons - especially generic ones - like the moment the creature gets specific they tend to call forth different imagery but if it's a generic demon the first thing they use is the cross and I just thought that was interesting. Perhaps you're right and simple branding really is the main reason.
