people boiling this down to just edginess, is completely missing the obvious contrast of ghouls and humans, the duality between both and the balance constantly being disrupted.

The easiest way to understand this concept is to imagine a room with no windows or doors but a mirror, if one room is completely full of light you can’t see your reflection, and the same as it being completely full of darkness.
This kaneki, “The black reaper” wears black in ccg where most branches wear white, (apart from suzuya which highlights his past corruption)

The black reaper is the turning point for haise, kens turning point was when he finally embraced (not accepted) that he was a ghoul, they both became what they hated the most. One a human eating creature who doesn’t show any morals or humanity and only relies on survival (white hair ken before anteiku take down) and the other a human who doesn’t shows all ghouls cruelty and doesn’t spare sympathy to even his crew. Every form of kaneki that has been portrayed so far has been broken.
