well. when you do think about it. or mc did forget about the basics. he relies on pure strength, before he used to take advtange of his environment and stuff, cheap tricks: blinding his opponents. but now not anymore.

my opinion though.

  It's been like that for a while. The only time I remember him doing that was when he used his belt to fight a guy with a machete or knife (can't remember what it was). Now all he does is brawl his way

Understand your point. I think it's not that she just gave up control of her body easily but rather the demon was able to take advantage of her mistreatment.

Not to mention that she was trying to prove that she's a capable figure, not just a supportive character, hence why she felt the weariness of thinking The Professor was choosing favourites when in reality, he treats his students equally, while he happens to put more attention on others.

That's why the branding woke up her sense of survival, not only because she finally knows that he also cares for her but she also understands that The Professor had experienced what she feared the most.
