  my guess is to give phoenia a lead to follow, she's the one who is supposed to uncover the rothtaylor's dark side but she stopped cause she felt bad for ed. But if she found out a rothtaylor servant killed ed its a whole different story now

  due to how the magic of his father works. if he didnt fake his death his father would know and would just continue trying to kill him off. By making the servants themselves believe he is dead he first needs to make the whole academy believe he is dead so they report that back as well.

Oh finally someone who use common sense with water magic! I've seen a lot of isekai not using such basic tactics when using water magic against human opponents it always left me scratching my head! On the other hand, a little bit of plot hole. if she truly has Ed monitored by her contracted spirit she should be more panicky when she saw Ed rather than that normal excuses. I mean, did no spirit in that forest not ever told her that Ed has been approached by a strange group with malicious intent?
